Cure Covid-19 cytokine storms with Terpenes and CBD
New Research Suggests Terpenes And CBD Work 2X’s Better For Covid-19 Inflammation Than Corticosteroid
In the fight against Covid-19, cytokine storms are one of the most deadly factors that doctors are battling. This symptom in severe cases of the novel coronavirus can lead to excessive inflammation, swelling, pain, and loss of organ function. It can even cause the immune system to ramp up so much that it starts killing the body’s own cells – instead of just fighting the infection. In serious cases, this can lead to death, as we’ve seen in many cases of severe Covid-19.
In the last few months, researchers have been looking at whether cannabis, or it’s many chemical compounds, might help to fight this deadly effect by bringing down inflammation. Recently, we’ve seen positive results from studies suggesting that CBD, a compound in cannabis, may help fight these cytokine storms.
Now early results from an ongoing Israeli study are adding to the chorus of researchers suggesting that cannabis’ ingredients could be a game changing treatment in the fight against Covid-19. But this study says that terpenes, compounds that provide the aroma and flavor in cannabis and many other plants, may lead to even better results than CBD alone, and might outperform conventional treatments like corticosteroids. Reports from the study show that a combination of CBD with terpenes was 2 times more effective at inhibiting cytokine activity than dexamethasone, a corticosteroid which a recent study found to be an effective treatment for Covid-19 cytokine storms.
Potential anti-inflammatory agents
“In this study, we report the antiviral activity of the NT-VRL-1 terpene formulation and show that that activity was enhanced when it was applied together with cannabidiol, suggesting either a synergetic or additive effect between the terpene formulation and CBD”, the authors summarized their findings.
Several studies have already suggested that phytochemicals present in cannabis may be valuable as potential anti-inflammatory agents, which could help control the cytokine storm syndrome and acute respiratory distress syndrome linked to COVID-19.
Consequently, NT-VRL (either with or without cannabidiol) could be a rather useful prevention measure against coronaviruses in general. As the lungs represent the part of the body that is primarily affected by COVID-19, a preventative treatment that would go directly to the lungs (either via inhalation or by some other route) may be the perfect way to administer potentially useful therapeutics.
The role of Terpenes their regulation of bodily functions, and how they create homeostasis in plants and in humans:
Terpenes have been called “the life blood of a plant.” They circulate through plant tissues and pass through cell walls, carrying nutrition into cells and carrying waste products out.
When Terpenes are applied to people, they do the same thing, carrying oxygen into cells and carrying waste products out. In fact, Terpenes are one of nature’s best body cleansers. They can cleanse our cellular receptor sites of pharmaceutical drugs, petrochemicals, and other disruptors of intercellular communication. They can also chelate heavy metals and other toxins, helping to remove and flush them through the liver, colon, sweat, lungs, and kidneys. They can also increase our ability to absorb vitamins and other nutrients.
Terpenes are Regulators of Many Functions
Terpenes act as plant hormones, regulating plant functions and orchestrating the production of vitamins and enzymes. They act as messengers and supervisors within the plant that help coordinate and initiate vital plant activities. Terpenes can also do the same when applied to humans. They can act as neurotransmitters, peptides, steroids, hormones, enzymes, vitamins, and other message-carrying molecules (called ligands) which intelligently assist our bodily functions and help to restore or maintain wellness.
Terpenes Possess Homeostatic Intelligence
Homeostasis is that state where every vital biological process within a living organism is functioning as it should. It is a state of perfect wellness. Terpenes always work toward restoring and maintaining balance and homeostasis, first in the plants who create them, and then in the humans who apply them.
To say that an Terpene works toward balance and homeostasis means that the same Terpene can work in different directions depending on the needs of the plant or person. Oregano oil (Origanum vulgare) will kill hostile microbes while nurturing those that are friendly. Angelica oil (Angelica archangelica) can stimulate a uterus to contract or to relax depending on the need. Myrtle oil (Myrtus communis) is an adaptigen that can stimulate an increase or a decrease in thyroid activity depending on a person’s condition. [Pharmaceutical] drugs are incapable of such intelligent discrimination’s and act only in preprogrammed directions.
What exactly are Terpenes?
A Terpene is the volatile lipid (oil) soluble portion of the fluids of a plant containing odiferous compounds produced by steam distillation of vegetable plant matter. Plant matter can be any part of a botanical species including stems, branches, fruits, flowers, seeds, roots, bark, needles, leaves, etc. During the distillation process, the vapors are condensed, collected, and separated from the condensation water. The residual water, containing traces of oil constituents, is called a “floral water” or “hydrosol,” and has therapeutic applications of its own.
Only High Quality Terpenes can Heal
Only the highest quality Terpenes have the capacity to promote healing. The plants that are used as the raw material for Terpenes must be healthy and clean. The processing methods must preserve the natural qualities of the Terpenes. The Terpenes that results must be 100% natural and 100% pure. Nothing should be added and nothing should be removed from the Terpene after it is processed.
Using Terpenes to Bring about Homeostasis and Cure Diseases
There are four basic portals through which Terpenes can enter the body: through the lungs, through the skin, through the digestive tract, and through the absorbent tissues of our body orifices.
The German school emphasizes inhalation as the best way to receive the benefits of Terpenes. Inhalation puts oil molecules directly into the blood stream through the alveoli of the lungs as well directly to the brain through the olfactory nerves which connect to the central brain.
Taking the cap off a bottle of Terpenes and sniffing it will not offer much therapeutic benefit. When you sniff a bottle, you are not necessarily obtaining the full complement of compounds that are in the oil.
One of the simplest ways to use an Terpenes is to put some of the oil in the palm of your hands and to breathe the oil as it vaporizes into the air. You can do this by putting one or two drops of an Terpenes in the palm of your hand and rubbing your palms together. Then open your palms slightly and put your nose between your thumbs and take a deep breath. Press the palms of your hands back together and hold your breath for a few second before exhaling. Holding the palms together will slow down the evaporation of the Terpene.
Since Terpenes also penetrate directly through the skin and enter the blood stream, you will obtain a treatment through your hands as well. If you have a tendency to touch your eyes frequently, you might wish to use some carrier oil on your fingers to remove any residue of Terpenes before you go on to your other daily activities.
Absorbing Terpenes in the Digestive Tract
By “digestive tract” we are referring to Terpenes taken by mouth, and swallowed so that they are actually absorbed through the stomach and intestines by digestive processes.
In this review, we showed that most classes of terpenoids have representatives with the potential geroprotective properties (Table 1). Thus, terpenoids are underestimated in their potential activities in terms of criteria of geroprotectors.
The literal translation of “geroprotector” is “protecting against aging”
We suggest that these compounds have a great prospect to become a new class of anti-aging drugs.
